Concrete subjected to freeze-thaw cycles and cold and freezing chambers

PROXTREM is the pumpable concrete specially designed to withstand the coldest conditions. It is a product with a specific formulation with a very low water / cement ratio and a content of occluded air in a fresh state of ≥ 4.5%, making PROXTREM concrete have excellent resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, being suitable for temperatures below zero.
This concrete incorporates structural polymeric fibers, which avoid the use of conventional reinforcement. The replacement of the steel reinforcement is highly advisable in this type of application since it can suffer the effects of corrosion and alterations in its structure due to the continuous changes in temperature to which it will be subjected during its useful life.

Field of application

  • Pavements for freezing / refrigeration chambers.
  • Floors subjected to very low temperatures: laboratories, agri-food industry.
  • Industrial pavements.
  • Floors subjected to ice-thaw cycles.

Benefits

  • RESISTANT: this product is designed to withstand temperatures under zero.
  • EFFICIENT: As it is a highly pumpable product, it is quickly applied on site, and without generating waste.
  • WITHOUT REINFORCEMENTS: The use of structural fibers avoids the use of metallic reinforcements, saving time and costs.
  • NO FISSURES: The use of structural polymeric fiber supports the shrinkage of the concrete and avoids the need to make joints in the pavement.
  • QUALITY: The consistency is adequate for a correct installation on site, and thus avoid adding water on site.

Application system

  • PROXTREM is applied in a liquid consistency and always by PROMSA's specialized teams.

  • Its implementation can be either by direct pouring or pumped. It requires a prior visit from a technician by PROMSA.

  • The implementation of PROXTREM does not differ from that of conventional concrete.

    Particularities

Given the low water / cement ratio of PROXTREM concrete and its placement in confined spaces with little ventilation, proper curing of the concrete is essential.
The use of this concrete for pavement applications subjected to freeze-thaw cycles requires minimal content and control of entrained air in a fresh state.
PROXTREM is suitable for placing on it approved products for the food industry (resins), it is possible that prior to applying these, surface milling of the concrete is required.
